Who we areA visitor to Iceland will soon discover the many churches that grace the rural landscape and are also found in villages and towns. The Icelandic people accepted Christianity around the year 1000 and the church has inherited a rich heritage from the generations of Christians in the history of Church and Christianity in this country. Changing demography, urbanisation and secularization are challenges to a church that serves everyone, around the country. The ELCI is committed to working ecumenically, both at local level and internationally and has initiated interfaith cooperation in Iceland.
