Where can I go to Church?

You are welcome to all services in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland. The language is Icelandic, but there are English services at the Church of Hallgrimur, Hallgrimskirkja, at 2 o'clock on the last sunday of every month.

Can I get married in the ELCI?

If you are not an Icelandic citizen you will need a certificate from the Reykjavik District Commissioner confirming your marital status. A pastor of the ELCI can marry you if you have this licence. The easiest way is to contact the pastor in the church where you want to get married.

Can I join the Church?

There are two preconditions for joining the church, a baptism and registration. The ELCI recognizes baptism done by other churches in the name of the father, son and holy spirit. If you want to join the church you should contact a pastor near you and discuss this with him.
Registration is done by Þjóðskrá, the Central Registration Officewhere you can find forms in Icelandic.
