Can I Join the Church?

Messa í Skálholtsdómkirkju - mynd: Árni Svanur Daníelsson

You are welcome to come to the church for a Sunday service or to seek counsel with the pastor or deacon. You can do this without being a formally a member of the church. You should seek out the pastor or staff of the church if you have any questions.

There are two preconditions for joining the church formally, a baptism and registration. The ELCI recognizes baptism done by other churches in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy spirit. If you want to become a member of the church you should contact a pastor near you and discuss this with him.
Registration is done by Þjóðskrá, the Central Registration Officewhere you can find forms in Icelandic.
